Starlit Harvest

Patience and timing are everything, and this image was shaped more by the rhythm of the harvest than by the timing of the new moon. I drive past this field twice a day and had long envisioned it as a foreground, but I wanted the hay baled before I ever set up the camera.

I missed one cutting when the bales were cleared before I could get there, which meant waiting nearly six more weeks for another opportunity. When the moment finally came, the resulting artwork became a reflection of life in the valley and the inexorable turning of the wheel of the year. If you have ever lived in—or spent time in—the country, this piece will feel familiar.
